My connections

Veronika Williams

Bsc (hons) PhD

Qualitative Researcher

Biography

My research focuses on the experiences of people living with a long-term condition (with a particular interest in chronic respiratory disease) and how we can support their self-management by further developing existing interventions.

I am also interested in how people aging with a chronic condition experience health and illness; health care services and care of older people. My research predominately involves qualitative research methods, but I also have expertise in working on qualitative studies embedded within clinical trials.

I currently work with Professor Andrew Farmer on a COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and tele-health trial 'COPD EDGE: sElf- management anD support proGrammE for COPD', where I am exploring patients' views on self-management and their experience of using a mobile health application.

I am also a co-investigator on a project with colleagues at Brunel University, Oxford Brookes University and City University London, on 'Bridging the Gap between Policy and Practice: Dignity in Care for Older People' funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust.

I am past treasurer of the British Society of Gerontology and I am a member of the British Sociological Association 'Ageing, Body and Society' Study Group.
