Laura graduated from Cardiff University Medical School in 2010. As an undergraduate she was awarded the medical school's 1st Prize Presentation in 2009 for medical student research. The same research project was awarded commendation from the International League Against Epilepsy's Gower's Medical Student Award in 2009.
Laura completed her GP training in Oxford, during which time she was elected Thames Valley Representative on the National Associates in Training (AiT) Committee at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP, 2014-2015). She was subsequently elected Chair of the National AIT Committee 2015-2016. In 2016 she was nominated for and awarded a Rising Star of General Practice in Pulse Magazine's annual Power 50, for her work as AiT Committee Chair.
After completing General Practice Specialty Training in Oxford in 2016, Laura was awarded an NIHR CLAHRC GP Fellowship in Cambridge in 2017. During this time she worked in the Health Behaviours Team at Cambridge University's Department of Public Health and Primary Care, investigating the use of mobile device applications to support medication adherence.
Laura returned to Oxford in 2018 to take up post as Clinical Researcher in Digital Health, working with Professor Andrew Farmer. Laura's main research at present focuses on diagnostics for hypertension and specifically the Screening for Hypertension in the INpatient Environment (SHINE) study. This is a prospective, hospital to home diagnostic accuracy study (see https://www.phc.ox.ac.uk/research/DLTC/studies/shine).
Laura was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Doctoral Fellowship in 2020 and continues to work clinically as a GP in Oxfordshire.
