Much of the work done in Primary Care research goes unoticed by the general public, but a lot of what we do impacts on NICE guidelines and can influence change in practice.

Recently Drs Carl Heneghan and Matthew Thompson, Director and Deputy Director of The Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine co-authored Ongoing problems with metal-on-metal hip implants (BMJ. 2012 Feb 28;344:e1349. doi: 10.1136/bmj.e1349.) and Dr Heneghan has been involved in bringing the need to tighten up regulation on the use of medical devices to the public eye.  He has appeared on BBC NewsNight and is on the Commons Select Science & Technology Committee.
