This paper has considered the importance of clinical guidelines as a more systematic and evidence-based approach to effective health care. It has also considered the steps practices should follow when considering the strengths (and weaknesses) of existing guidelines; how they should choose guidelines; and, finally, how they should structure the adoption of the guidelines to routine clinical practice.
