Laia Bosque-Mercader

Research Fellow in Health Economics

Laia is a Research Fellow based at the Centre for Health Service Economics and Organisation in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of York.

Her main research interests are in the field of Applied Microeconometrics with an emphasis on Health Economics and Public Policy Evaluation. She is also interested in Education and Labour Economics. She is currently working on two projects related to hospital resilience during and after peaks of Covid-19 and inequalities in the use and access to health services for patients with multi-morbidity. Laia has also worked in the following topics:

  • The causal effect of universal preschool programmes on long-term outcomes (e.g. health, employment, fertility).
  • Socioeconomic inequalities in waiting times for elective and cancer surgery.
  • The association between bed occupancy rates and hospital quality.
