Jennifer MacLellan
Qualitative Researcher
I am a nurse/midwife with a background in public health, humanitarian response and research delivery. In response to the debate around quality care in childbirth, my PhD explored vulnerability and identity negotiation in childbirth through narrative and dialogic analyses of online birth stories. I work in health inequalities with a particular focus on women's health and maternity services in the UK. I use participatory and co-production methodologies alongside qualitative research skills.
I am currently the ethnographer on Listen2Baby, an experience based co-design, implementation study exploring the practice of intermittent auscultation monitoring in UK maternity services. I lead the BEAMs postnatal red flags study exploring postnatal information design and delivery with women who have lived experience of challenges accessing health care. I am also the lead on an NIHR funded implementation study: 'Optimising the use of professionally trained interpreters in UK maternity services' with colleagues in York and Limerick. I currently supervise two fantastic PhD students.
