PhD, MA, MSc, BSc, RN, SCPHN(HV)

Qualitative Researcher

I am a qualitative researcher and nurse specialising in conversation analysis. I currently work on a number of studies including SLIM-CARD, TalkWel, and LIGHT-COM. All these studies focus on behavioural interventions and weight loss. My work includes exploring how participants are recruited to these studies, and how behavioural interventions are communicated to participants. These findings will be used to develop training to improve recruitment and the delivery of interventions in these studies.

My research interests are in healthcare communication, with my PhD using conversation analysis to explore compassion in nurse-patient interaction. I have also worked on a project exploring clinicians’ communication of dementia risk.

I have previously worked as an adult and children’s nurse in secondary care, and a health visitor in the community. The latter included working on the Family Nurse Partnership Programme, an intensive home visiting programme for young first-time mothers, aimed at improving outcomes for them and their babies through behaviour change.
