Clinical Consultant: 0.1 or 0.2 FTE (negotiable)

This is a demanding and rewarding leadership role within the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) with a focus on strategic planning, developing and implementing research training programmes across the Oxford University Hospitals, Oxford University and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) research infrastructure. Training represents a key activity for NIHR, shaping the future research and clinical workforce and ensuring that it has the right skill mix for the future. The training lead is a key member of the BRC’s leadership with responsibility for developing and coordinating both the annual and the strategic research education work plan for different professional groups across Oxford, as well as representing the BRC in research education and training at national level. This is an outstanding opportunity to shape BRC research education and training and to make an impact at national level amongst senior clinical academic peers as part of the national Infrastructure Training Forum. The post holder will also advise the BRC Director, the BRC Steering Committee and other senior colleagues within the OUH NHS Trust and the Medical Sciences Division, playing a key role in helping them to understand the training and education context in which the BRC operates, and to identify and implement new opportunities.

The post holder will play a crucial role in the Research Training and Education Sub-Theme through developing its overarching vision and strategic direction, in conjunction with ensuring its effective delivery. Research Training and Education is a sub-theme of the Partnerships for Health, Wealth & Innovation Theme (PHWI) led by Professor Trish Greenhalgh.

The postholder may also have a key role in any future BRC competition applications. Ideally the Training Lead will be a recognised authority in the field of research training and education who has either current or previous responsibility for a programme of research training. The post holder will also be the nominated national Infrastructure Training Lead for the Oxford BRC, see annex A for NIHR description. It is envisaged that day-to-day administration will be performed by the research education and training manager who the post holder will line manage.

This is a part-time, fixed-term role until March 2022.
