Alex’s research interests in the sociology of health and illness include complimentary self-care, cancer, health in developing countries, qualitative methodologies, end-of-life care and organisational and inter-professional dynamics.  He is the Head of Sociology at the University of Queensland’s School of Social Sciences with honorary positions in Universities across the UK, USA and Australia.  He has authored several books on end-of-life care and cancer and has recently spoken in the Australian media on overprescribing.
