Treating older people with cognitive challenges, creating lifelong learners, and fostering the arts all seem laudable and accepted social goals, which relate to enhancing health, broadly defined. This talk is designed to facilitate a consultation from the audience about what the nature and perhaps even need for evidence is in these (to me) related  domains. Assessing medical diagnostics provokes a specific  set of evidence gathering practices, like clinical trials. Complex interventions like innovative schools often employ more mixed methods – narrative emerges as key. Assessing the arts leads to broader challenging issues about what the intervention is and if and  how it should be “measured.” I will speak from an intergenerative  transdisciplinary stance. I will share the case example of attempts to develop public health policies for dementia and the arts through APHA. I will present one integrated intervention across all three domains- dementia, schools, and the arts focusing on artistic performances in an intergenerational school I cofounded in Cleveland where people with dementia learn with children. At the root of my concern is how we should make wiser social decisions about allocation of resources in an increasingly ecologically, politically  and economically challenged world.
