So department members have time each week to focus for one hour of solid work without being disturbed, we are piloting two, one-hour periods of quiet working each week.

Golden Hours will take place after coffee break on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 11am – 12 noon.

During this time, department members are encouraged to:

  • Refrain from emailing other colleagues in the department,
  • Avoid making internal and external calls, though external calls can be taken,
  • Avoid disturbing colleagues with ad-hoc requests.

Pre-arranged meetings, in our meeting rooms, can continue. The goal is for Golden Hour to become a time where everyone knows they won’t be interrupted.  This is a Better Workplace Group initiative, supported by the Research Strategy Committee and will be piloted for three months.

To help ensure Golden Hour is appropriate for our needs, and to measure its effectiveness after the initial pilot, please complete our short survey. Thank you.
