5 January 2017

Are you aiming for an academic career in science? This pilot 2-day course will help you think in detail about what you want from an academic career, and about how to start to take control and design your own pathway.

Participants will:

  • Design their individual definition of career success within academia
  • Working together in groups, undertake a project in between the two workshop days
  • Present the findings and outcomes of the group project on day two, and receive feedback
  •  Plan ongoing action

Pathways is being piloted initially in the science divisions and is open to research staff and DPhil students in their third year and above who self-identify as female. (There will be a further pilot for researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences later in the year). The workshop dates for the sciences are Monday 30th January 2017 and Monday 27th February 2017.

To apply for a place please complete the application form and return to

Please note that if you are offered a place on the course, you will be expected to attend both days in full, and to make a full contribution to a group project that will be undertaken between the two workshop days.

This pilot is being funded by the VC’s Diversity fund as an initiative to support women’s career progression in academia.

If you self-identify as male and would be interested in attending a personal development programme, please see details of the Navigator programme:
