On Friday 21 June, more than 200 members of our department gathered for our summer party, held this year in honour of Professor Richard Hobbs, our outgoing Head of Department. The party was a perfect blend of celebration and reflection, marking the end of Richard\u2019s 13-year tenure at the helm.
The teams behind the PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC clinical trials, run in the Clinical Trials Unit at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, have been awarded the prestigious Prix Galien Best Public Sector Innovation Award 2024 for their work in conducting innovative, large-scale clinical trials during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh has been appointed to succeed Professor Richard Hobbs CBE as Nuffield Professor of Primary Care Health Sciences and Head of Department from August 2024.
Through a strategic partnership with UNSW and the University of Oxford, Prof Michael Kidd, will start in a new joint position in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS), focusing upon Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems.

The Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) and the RCGP Scientific Foundation Board (SFB) award two departmental members for their contribution: Senior Clinical Research Fellow, Dr. Oliver van Hecke, receives SAPC/RCGP award for Outstanding Early Career Researcher 2022, and undergraduate medical student, Hettie Davies, receives the SAPC Medical Student Essay Prize 2022.
Final Honours student, Harrison France, from the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Science and the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, has recently been awarded 1st place in the the IUPHAR (International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology) Student Research Poster Competition 2022 by the British Pharmacological Society, for his research on preventable deaths involving medicines.
Bakita Kasadha is a qualitative researcher within the department's MS&HERG (Medical Sociology and Health Experiences Research Group), and has recently been awarded the Young Investigator Award at an International workshop on HIV and Women.
