DPhil and MSc by Research
Welcome to the Departmental Graduate Studies website. The Graduate Studies Committee is responsible for all graduate affairs in the department and is made up of various academics within the department. Day-to-day responsibility for our graduate students is taken by our Director of Graduate Studies, Professor Anthony Harnden.
DIRECT ENTRY DPHIL AND MSC BY RESEARCH
We have up to 30 postgraduate students at any one time for research towards a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil.) degree, which is the University of Oxford’s equivalent of a PhD. Details of all our supervisors can be found at the bottom of this page.
We are a well-funded department, able to offer graduate students plenty of space and facilities. Students also benefit from our close proximity to colleges, libraries and other facilities.
We provide a comprehensive training programme for graduate students, which includes an induction, a series of seminars and access to training in a wide range of transferable skills.
We have a number of full-time studentships that cover university and college fees and living costs. These are funded by a number of bodies including the Medical Research Council, the NIHR, Clarendon Funds and University Colleges. They are awarded on a competitive basis
Director of Graduate Studies:
What our students say:
An MSc perspective
"I have greatly enjoyed studying in the department of Primary Care Health Sciences (attached to Wolfson College) over the last three years. Being part of a highly successful and friendly department has been excellent and I have greatly benefitted from the advice and support of my colleagues. Studying at Oxford University has been a fantastic experience; Oxford is a fantastic city to live in and as a student at the University, I have received great add-on benefits such as teaching experience (setting me up nicely for my proposed academic career as a lecturer) and being part of a fun, diverse and friendly College community at Wolfson."
