Dr Suchita Shah: Portfolio Career and Special Interest in Global Health

I graduated from The Queen’s College, Oxford in 2004, after completing undergraduate studies and an M.Phil in International Relations at Cambridge. I have been a Departmental GP Tutor here since 2010, and the rest of my working life is a ‘portfolio’ of clinical practice, writing and editing, medical education, and consulting. My passion for global health led me to do a Master of Public Health degree at Harvard; my work has taken me all over the world, from Cambodia to Chile, inspiring me along the way to take up photography, travel writing, and even a spot of film-making. I am an editor at BMJ Learning and am part of the RCGP’s Curriculum team, which sets the national educational framework for GP training. With these multiple perspectives, I feel better able to enjoy the holistic, community-based and very human approach to medicine that general practice can offer.
