Andrea Roalfe

BSc (Hons), MSc

Senior Researcher in Medical Statistics

Cardiovascular research

I joined the department in September 2017 as Senior Researcher in Medical Statistics. I am an applied statistician with extensive experience in medical statistics, epidemiology and clinical trials.  My main area of interest is cardiovascular disease research, focusing on heart failure epidemiology and risk prediction modelling. I lead the statistical function of a range of studies within the Cardiovascular Research Group (ECHOES, ECHOES-X, BAFTA, SAFE, REFER, OXVALVE).

I began my career as a statistician with the West Midlands Regional Health Authority following completion of a BSc in Computing and Statistics at Cardiff University in 1985. After completing an MSc in Medical Statistics at Leicester University in 1997, I took up a lectureship in medical statistics in the Department of Primary Care at the University of Birmingham - where I stayed for almost 20 years, becoming Head of Statistics in 2013.
