Iain Chalmers

Senior Fellow and Associate Tutor at the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine

Iain was founding director of the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit between 1978-1992, and the UK Cochrane Centre between 1992 and 2003. Between 2003 and 2019 he was coordinator of the James Lind Initiative, which used a variety of approaches to promoting better research for better health care. Iain founded the James Lind Library in 1998 to illustrate the evolution of fair tests of treatments, and he remains the Library’s Articles Editor.  He is one of the contributors to the CEBM’s Catalogue of Bias
