  • TOAST Trial Treatment Options without Antibiotics for Sore Throat

Julie Allen

Infectious Diseases Trial Manager

I am a Trial Manager within the Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit working on the TOAST Trial (Treatment Options without Antibiotics for Sore Throat). TOAST is a multicentre, double blind randomized placebo-controlled trial looking at whether a single dose of oral corticosteroid is an effective course of treatment for patients presenting to primary care with a sore throat.

The trial is running across three hubs (Oxford, Bristol and Southampton) and has a recruitment target of 566 participants. The aim is to complete recruitment by the end of 2014.

I joined the PC-CTU in June 2012 working as a Trial Co-ordinator on the RCT2 Trial before moving to work as the Trial Co-ordinator for TOAST. I became Trial Manager in June 2014.
