Julie Evans

Senior Qualitative Researcher

I work in the Health Experiences Research Group (HERG) ( on qualitative interview studies of people's experiences of illness. These studies are published on as a resource for the public and health and social care professionals.

Since 2000 I have specialised in studying people’s experiences of cancer or of cancer screening. As well as doing my own studies I have also ‘buddied’ or supervised studies done by colleagues in HERG or at other universities.

I am currently studying people’s experiences of having their kidney function or heart function checked regularly in primary care as part of wider studies being conducted in this department and elsewhere of understanding and managing long-term conditions. The kidney monitoring interviews will be used to form a new section of about mild kidney impairment, and the heart disease interviews will be used to update the existing section on heart failure.
