Madeleine Bastawrous

BSc (Hons) MBChB

Honorary Researcher

I am a medical doctor with an interest (and passion) for preventing non-communicable disease in the UK and in low and middle income countries.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and Physiology and qualified as a medical doctor in 2009. I have worked in paediatrics and general practice and in 2012 moved to Kenya to support a cohort study of older Kenyans from which I'm leading on the analysis and reporting of data on body composition centile curves and the incidence of hypertension and obesity.

Whilst in Kenya my husband and I co-founded a social enterprise healthy bakery which provides employment to young adult orphans, provides profits to support low-income Kenyans with eye care and provides access to a healthy alternative to the widely available processed bread.

I'm interested in translational research to reduce childhood obesity in the UK as well as in low and middle-income countries.
