My research focuses primarily on understanding the quality and outcomes of care for chronic conditions in older patients diagnosed with cancer.  As cancer treatment continues to improve, overall morbidity and mortality in cancer will depend increasingly on the quality of care for other chronic conditions, such as heart disease and osteoporosis.  This is especially true for the elderly, who are at higher risk of many types of cancer and also tend to have more chronic conditions.  It is important to understand how care for chronic conditions in cancer patients is provided so that we can make changes that improve the quality of care, and reduce morbidity and mortality.

My research is based mainly on large observational databases, including the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and the US National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results national cancer registry.  Presently, I am Co-Principal Investigator on a study funded by Cancer Research UK to assess the quality and outcomes of care for cardiovascular conditions in patients diagnosed with breast, colorectal, or prostate cancer.

I am on faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA, and reading for a DPhil in Evidence Based Health Care at Balliol College, Oxford.
