Ting Cai

I am reading a DPhil in Primary Health Care, specialising in Medical Statistics/Data Sciences and Epidemiology. My research interest is mainly in epidemiological study, particularly pharmacoepidemiology, with application of big data analysis and quantitative evidence synthesis.

My DPhil project is to better understand the safety profiles of statins for prevention of cardiovascular diseases, using clinical trial evidence and real-world data from electronic healthcare records (EHRs). This project includes meta-analysis of clinical trial data, population-based causal inference cohort study, and derivation and validation of prediction models for individual risk of potential adverse events. This work aims to address the increasing concerns about statin safety and to support personalised and shared clinical decision making on statin treatment. My DPhil study is funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF). 

Before starting my DPhil study, I completed a research-based Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine, and a Bachelor of Sciences in Preventive Medicine. My previous research work involved assessment of efficacy and safety of treatments, including antidiabetics, antiepileptics, and vaccines, using evidence synthesis and database study. I am also a programmer using R for data management and analysis.
