Promoting your event
There are several ways to let colleagues and the wider university know about your event. Here's a quick guide to what's available and how to use each channel.
Weekly Update
The Weekly Update is the main way to reach colleagues across the department. Submit event details to newsletter@phc.ox.ac.uk.
To keep the events section and the newsletter to a readable length, events are featured when first submitted and then again in the fortnight before the event or sign-up deadline.
We appreciate that people might want a boost if their signup numbers are lower than hoped, but to be fair to all, and to keep the newsletter useful for readers, we apply this consistently.
Events that are run and hosted by the department itself – such as the Research Showcase, staff conference, or Department Open Meeting – may be promoted more prominently and over a longer period.
Department events page
Our department events page lists upcoming events organised by or relevant to departmental colleagues.
To add an event, contact the PA in your group.
Oxford Events
Oxford Events advertises events to the wider university community. Again, contact the PA in your group to add your event – or you can apply for an account if you add events regularly for your group
Notice boards
We have notice boards in multiple locations in our building, including break rooms and kitchens, specifically for advertising events and opportunities.
Contact Jessy Morton (jessy.morton@phc.ox.ac.uk) to have material displayed.
Please don't put up your own posters or flyers in corridors, kitchens, or other communal areas – unofficial materials will be removed to keep shared spaces tidy and accessible.
Spread the word through your networks
Don't underestimate word of mouth. Ask your supervisor or group lead to share with other group leads, who can pass it on to their teams. A personal recommendation from someone in a relevant network often lands better than an institutional email.
