Sophia Wilkinson

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Manager

I am responsible for enabling and facilitating patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) with the Bennett Institute’s new OpenSafely Talking Therapies service. This is to ensure that people with lived experience advise and guide the service’s development phases and help with the prioritisation of mental health research.

Previously I’ve managed PPIE for Oxford Population Health (NDPH), and the Oxford Vaccine Group. I’m committed to enabling people from communities who are underrepresented in health research to take part, to help address health inequalities.

My background is social and behaviour change communication relating to health, in the area of global development. I worked on mass media health campaigns with the BBC’s international charity, BBC Media Action, to improve maternal and child health, and address conditions such as HIV, and infectious diseases. I started my career as a radio journalist, working in Southeast Asia.

I have a degree in Thai Studies and History, a postgraduate diploma in Journalism, and a masters in Development Practices. I am also certified to teach English as a foreign language (CELTA certificate).
