As a world pandemic, COVID-19 has driven new priorities for science and technology cooperation. 

To help respond and promote international dialogue between universities and the R&D industry, academics of Oxford University initiated a series of science lectures jointly with Chinese research institutes, hospitals and venture capitals from June 2020, including topics in Population Medicine, Drug Development, Vaccine, Digital Health, Immunology, Chronic Disease and Technology Innovation.

We are pleased to be starting Series II with the 8th lecture on 16th September with a celebration of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences' 100 anniversary, to exchange ideas between 2 universities who act as leaders in 2 countries on medical science.

Professor in respiratory and critical care medicine, chief physician,  academician of Chinese Academy of engineering. Vice President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Beijing Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

 

He has engaged in medical treatment, teaching and research in the fields of pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, respiratory failure and respiratory support technology, new respiratory infectious diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tobacco disease and so on. He is good at the diagnosis and treatment of difficult respiratory diseases and critical diseases. We have made a number of innovations such as sequential mechanical ventilation, reduced thrombolytic therapy for pulmonary embolism, and confirming the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine on influenza, and entered the international guidelines to guide and improve clinical practice. To clarify the disease burden, diagnosis and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma in China. It has undertaken more than 10 national and international important research projects. He has published more than 100 papers in international authoritative journals such as BMJLancet. 

He edited more than 10 monographs such as pulmonary embolism, respiratory support technology and national planning textbooks such as internal medicine and critical care medicine. He won the science and technology progress award of the ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation and the outstanding contribution award to tobacco control of the World Health Organization.

Vice president of Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences

He is mainly engaged in the research on the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of important respiratory virus infection.  Executive director of 6th Council of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and executive editor of biosafety & Health magazine.

He has successively undertaken nearly 20 national scientific research projects, published nearly 100 SCI papers as corresponding authors, and won 6 provincial and ministerial level and above scientific and technological awards.
