The aim of the CA&CE meetings is to bring our international community together to share research findings and promote methodological excellence and innovation in the application of conversation analytic (CA) methods to communication during health care encounters; and to consider how we can best ensure that our research is meaningful to patients and their family members, health care professionals, clinical educators, and policy makers.

FINAL Programme

The CA&CE meetings have evolved a certain ‘style’; they are relatively small compared to most other conferences, numbers are capped, so there’s plenty of opportunity to discuss papers. Attendees can also participate in data sessions, allowing the opportunity to work with and explore a wide variety of original data. So, there’s a real emphasis on participation, interchange, sharing research ideas and findings – as much of a ‘hands on’ approach as is possible within the constraints of such a meeting.

Although the whole of the CA&CE meeting will showcase applied research, the final day in particular focuses on how our work can connect with professional/practical problems and patients’ experiences, aiming to foster productive interchanges.

We are delighted to announce that our keynote speakers for CA&CE 2024 are:

  • Alison Pilnick, Professor of Language, Health & Society, Manchester Metropolitan University
  • Steven Bloch, Professor of Communication and Social Interaction, University College London
  • Johanna Ruusuvuori, Professor of Social Psychology, Tampere University, Finland
  • Rose McCabe, Professor of Clinical Communication at City, University of London
