The Future of Continuity for Primary Care: Professor Sir Denis Pereira Gray and the St. Leonard’s Practice team

Professor Sir Denis Pereira Gray is the former President of the Royal College of General Practitioners and led the first postgraduate university department of general practice in Europe at the University of Exeter. He worked as a general practitioner for 38 years in the St Leonard’s Medical Practice in Exeter.

The team at St Leonard's Practice, which also includes Professor Philip Evans, Dr Nada Khan and Dr Kate Sidaway-Lee, have led pioneering work on continuity of care in general practice. Partnering with five Devon practices, they improved measured continuity between patients and their named GP. They now focus on sharing the evidence about the benefits of continuity of care, supporting practices to measure it, and promoting the use of personal lists to strengthen patient-doctor relationships.
