Why don't people living in Hackney take more exercise?
Rayner M., Heughan A., Pearson G., Brunner E.
LEVELS of exercise are low in the UK but there is a lack of research which could help to explain why this is so. A survey of residents in Hackney was under taken to relate reported physical activity and exer cise levels to attitudes, knowledge, perceived benefits and reported constraints to increased partic ipation. We found that while attitudes towards exer cise were generally positive and knowledge of its benefits was relatively high there were a range of factors which were perceived to constrain increased participation, including a lack of facilities, money and time. © 1990, Sage Publications.
