As part of the preparation for a trial of an intervention to increase fruit and vegetable intake, a pack containing a fridge chart and associated materials has been developed. The development was overseen by the researchers who conducted a series of focus groups in which different stages of the design were pre-tested. The materials were redesigned in close collaboration with nutritionists and designers. This paper reports the development of the pack, from initial testing of a chart produced by a US company, to the final version. The companion paper (in this issue) reports on the controlled pilot evaluation of the packs in two primary schools in Lothian.
