Smoking reduction interventions for smoking cessation.

AbstractThis is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows:To assess the effect of reduction‐to‐quit interventions on long‐term smoking abstinenceTo assess the number and proportion of participants who make quit attempts and the amount of reduction that occurs as a result of reduction‐to‐quit interventionsTo assess whether the efficacy of reduction to quit interventions is moderated by baseline motivation to quit, cigarettes per day, self‐efficacy or preference for gradual versus abrupt cessationTo investigate any adverse effects of reduction‐to‐quit interventions (including adverse events)We will assess these objectives by comparing reduction‐to‐quit interventions with no smoking cessation treatment, abrupt quitting interventions and other reduction‐to‐quit interventions.
