This project aims to understand how and when Compound Pressures (CPs) impact on General Practice (GP). Compound Pressures is a new term defined by the National Institute for Health and Care Research as an “increasingly complex set of challenges facing health and social care. Compound pressures impact on patients, carers, and the health and care workforce”.

Compound pressures on the NHS and social care are increasing. We need to understand the effects of compound pressures on general practice, and how general practice can provide and/or support compound pressure solutions. For example, how might climate change (e.g. displaced migrants, flooding, heat waves) or a pandemic impact on general practice and create additional challenges for patients and staff. In particular, we want to understand how compound pressures and responses/solutions can increase/reduce fair and effective patient care.

This project is funded by HSDR NIHR 161602. It is a 26 month project and will start 1st Jan 2025.
