Healthy, sustainable diets
Policies and interventions to support healthy, sustainable diets
We work on policies and population-level interventions to support healthy, sustainable diets. Our projects include analysing big data on the nutritional and environmental impact of foods and diets; co-designing and evaluating interventions in real-life food settings; and modelling the health and environmental impact of food scenarios in the UK and globally. Details about this work and our research team can be found at the Sustainable Healthy Food Group
Here are some examples of our work in this area:
- SALIENT – a series of trials of interventions in real-life food settings aimed at promoting healthy and sustainable diets
- In the SHIFT project we will review dietary policy in the UK and work with policymakers and others to co-design interventions for healthy, sustainable low-meat diets.
- Low meat diets have lower measures of greenhouse gas emissions, water use, land use, water pollution and biodiversity loss even when incorporating variation in how and where food is produced
- Measuring the healthiness of food sales from food and beverage companies
- Measuring the impact of the UK Soft Drink Industry Levy on manufacturer behaviour and sales, and modelling its impact on health
