LightCOM: Your study visit

This information is for people who are already in the LightBAR, LightCARE or LightWAY study.
 You can only join the study if you have been directly invited to take part.​

This appointment may last up to 50 minutes. When you arrive, we will ask you to provide a urine sample. At the appointment, we will ask you some questions about your health, and take some measurements from you and some blood samples.

There are a few things that you need to do for the visit to make sure we can take the right measurements:

  1. Please do not eat or drink anything from 10 hours before your appointment. For example, if your appointment is at 9am, please do not eat or drink from 11pm the night before. You may have one glass of water. Please keep taking any medications that you are on.

  2. Please do not drink alcohol from 12 hours before your appointment.

  3. Please bring water and something to eat with you to the appointment. Please also bring any medications that you may need to take while at the appointment.

  4. Please do not exercise or smoke from 2 hours before your appointment.

  5. Please wear light clothing. If you need to wear layers to keep warm, please make sure you can take them off for some of your measurements.

  6. Please wear comfortable shoes. We will be asking you to do some physical tests that will involve walking, and standing up and sitting down quickly, so please wear shoes that will be comfortable for you to do this in.

We know that attending this appointment takes time out of your day, but we only get a true picture of the effects of the treatments if everyone turns up to the appointment, no matter how well the treatment has worked for them personally. By coming to the appointment, you are helping doctors know better how to help people with their weight. We will give you a £50 voucher to thank you for the time you have taken to come to the appointment and fill in the questionnaires. 

At all appointments after your first study visit, we will send you some questionnaires to complete before your appointment. Please try to finish them before the appointment. If you haven’t already finished the questionnaires, we will also go through these questionnaires with you.
