Akbar Ansari
BA, MPhil, PhD
Realist Researcher in Primary Care Workforce and Learning
Akbar joined the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences in December 2025, and is a Realist Researcher in Primary Care Workforce and Learning. He is currently working on a project examining the impact of compound pressures (e.g. climate change, financial crises) on general practice. Using a realist review, this project aims to understand how and when compound pressures impact general practice, and how general practice may be able to support and/or provide solutions to compound pressures.
Prior to joining the University of Oxford, Akbar was a Research Associate at the Health Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute), University of Cambridge, where he worked on a variety of topics including general practice, maternity care, and responses to the COVID pandemic. He has a particular interest in evidence synthesis and primary healthcare organisation and design. Akbar studied at the University of Cambridge, from which he has a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology, an MPhil in Modern Society and Global Transformations, and a PhD in Sociology.
