James Scott-Brown

Software Engineer

James is a software engineer on the FoodDB and BetterBasket projects. FoodDB scrapes the websites of retailers to construct a longitudinal dataset of available foods and their nutritional composition; BetterBasket presents information to consumers to help them make healthier food purchasing decisions.

James has an MA and M.Eng from the University of Cambridge; as an undergraduate he studied (biological) Natural Sciences for two years before switching to Engineering. He received a D.Phil from the University of Oxford, where he was a student in the Centre for Doctoral Training in Synthetic Biology and the Department of Engineering Science. Before joining CPNP he was a Research Associate in the Data Science Institute at Imperial College London.

As well as diet, his research interests include visualization and diagrams, particularly as applied to biology and medicine.
