Marjan Walli-Attaei

Senior Researcher in Health Economics

I am a Senior Researcher in Health Economics, and my current work focuses on cardiovascular disease and mortality, with emphasis on disease burden, healthcare utilisation and costs, quality of life, and sex differences. In collaboration with the European Society of Cardiology, I am involved in a programme of work examining the drivers and future trends of cardiovascular-related healthcare costs, and strategies to contain costs while improving outcomes. Much of my research is cross-country in scope.

I am also an Associate Investigator at the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI), Canada, where I conduct collaborative research as part of large-scale international studies such as the PURE study and the Global Congestive Heart Failure (G-CHF) Registry. Drawing on my background in economics and epidemiology, I am developing a programme of research on how health system factors influence access to care, patterns of service use, and outcomes across chronic diseases.

I have extensive experience in government as a Senior Economist with the Ontario Public Service, where I provided economic analyses to inform evidence-based decision-making on healthcare policy and drug funding at a provincial level.

In addition, I serve as an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
