Nicolas Armijo Escalona

NIHR Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow in Health Economics

Pre-doctoral researcher

Nicolas Armijo Escalona joined the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences as an NIHR pre-doctoral fellow in 2025, under the supervision of Associate Professor Koen Pouwels and Dr David Smith. His interests focus on combining infectious disease and economic modelling to inform public health policies, with particular interest in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and infectious diseases.

Prior to joining Oxford, Nicolas worked as a health economist at the Health Technology Assessment Unit of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, contributing to cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses, evidence synthesis, and health policy research in Chile and Latin America.

Nicolas holds a Master’s degree in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and a degree in Pharmacy from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
