Sam West

Postdoctoral researcher

I am a BRC funded postdoctoral researcher with the Health Behaviours team based in the Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford.

I completed my PhD with the Nutritional Physiology Research Group at the University of Exeter in 2023, where my research centred around using isotopically labelled amino acids to assess how modulating dietary protein form influences postprandial skeletal muscle metabolism.

My current research focuses on understanding how lifestyle (diet and exercise) and pharmaceutical interventions can be used in the treatment and management of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Most recently, this has involved investigating how low carbohydrate diets can be used to improve glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes and understanding the mechanisms by which any improvements occur.
