‘From CD-ROM to AI: 30 years of CEBM’
Professor Carl Heneghan, Professor Kamal Mahtani and Dr Annette Plüddemann from the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine delivered a compelling sold-out session at Kellogg College as part of the University’s Alumni Meeting Minds weekend.
The session took an in-depth look at the 30-year evolution of CEBM from the early days of CD-ROMs to today’s cutting-edge era of big data and AI.
Their mission has remained steadfast: to develop, teach, promote and share better evidence for better healthcare.
‘You Are What You Eat’: A Conversation on Sustainable Food
Professor Susan Jebb chaired a thought-provoking session on sustainable food at the Meeting Minds weekend.
Panel members included Professor Mette Morsing, then Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment and now Interim Dean of the Saïd Business School, and Sarah Bradbury, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Grocery Distribution.
They spoke to a sold-out audience of interested alumni about improving health and preventing disease, the importance of providing food and nutrition security for everyone, and incentivising farmers to make positive changes in farming techniques to prevent and reverse nature loss. The panellists also agreed that these types of changes would take partnerships between academia, businesses and governments, many of which are being actively encouraged by their respective organisations.
Their parting suggestion: ‘Take advantage of the cultural and social value of “pester power” in communities to advocate for effective change’.
A recording of the session will be available on the Meeting Minds website shortly.
The weekend also featured alumni and community tours exploring the history of the Radcliffe Infirmary, highlighted in 'From Outpatients’ Building to Global Primary Care: Alumni and community tours celebrate the building’s history.'
