On 4 September, Gurpreet Singh Kalra, MSc in Global Healthcare Leadership student and Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and Clinical Lead at Wales Fertility Institute, delivered an engaging talk at the Saïd Business School. Gurpreet focused on the critical issues surrounding menstrual, fertility, and menopausal health in the workplace, highlighting their significant impact on women's careers and overall well-being.
Drawing on over 20 years of experience as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist, as well as his research into inequitable access to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in high-income countries, Gurpreet shared key insights into how organisations can better support women’s reproductive health. He emphasised the need for open conversations and supportive policies to create more inclusive work environments.
The talk, titled ‘Normalising the discourse on gynaecolological health at the workplace – an essential component of new-age leadership’, was well-received, sparking lively discussions among attendees about breaking down stigma, improving research on women's workplace experiences, and advocating for policy changes. Attendees shared personal stories underscoring the importance of educating organisations and policymakers on the issue.
‘It is encouraging to see educational institutions fostering these important discussions and creating resources for both students and employees,’ Gurpreet commented. ‘I look forward to continuing the dialogue and collaborating on future initiatives that promote health and equity in the workplace.’
This event serves as a stepping stone for future conversations and research on women’s reproductive health, underscoring the need for more workplace support mechanisms and informed policies.
