Undergraduate student Bernard Bukala, Worcester College, received the Moher Prize for Undergraduate General Practice this week for his innovative project promoting improved care for patients with Parkinson's Disease.
Launched in 2019, the Moher Prize promotes innovation in primary care by the next generation of doctors. It is open to Year 5 students and encourages them to develop their knowledge and skills beyond the standard requirements. The prize emphasises creating work which is inspirational and original which could lead to improved care for patients.
Bernard's project proposed a GP review template for Oxfordshire patients with Parkinson's Disease in an effort to facilitate patient-centred, efficient and reliable reviews.
Commenting, the judges said: "Bernard’s was a great presentation! An effective and original presentation on an important topic. Clearly you have involved team members in this innovative project. Your project proposes a good model to improve the review of patients with Parkinson's in the community by better working between GP and PD specialist nurse."
Projects take the form of a video clip, audio or written report, and students can submit at any time during the year.
