Symptomatic Faecal Immunochemical Testing (SympFIT)
Understanding the diagnostic value of Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) in patients with symptoms of colorectal cancer.
In collaboration with Oxfordshire CCG and Oxford University Hospitals Trust we are evaluating the utility of faecal occult blood testing (FOBT) in primary care patients with lower abdominal symptoms. We are comparing the older type of FOBT (guaiac) with the newer type (Faecal Immunochemical Testing or FIT) to establish the diagnostic accuracy of FOBT, and the impact of FOBT use on referrals to specialist care. We hope our findings will inform national guidance on FIT.
