In collaboration with Oxfordshire CCG and Oxford University Hospitals Trust we are evaluating the utility of faecal occult blood testing (FOBT) in primary care patients who meet NG12 NICE criteria for investigation. We are comparing the older type of FOBT (guaiac) with the newer type (Faecal Immunochemical Testing or FIT) to establish the diagnostic accuracy of FOBT, and the impact of FOBT use on referrals to specialist care. Our findings will inform national guidance on FIT.
