Each year, there are 70,000 new cases of hip fracture in the UK, with an associated ongoing annual cost of health and social care of £3 billion. National standards recommend two hours of inpatient rehabilitation after surgery per week, but we do not know if this is enough.

 

This study seeks to find out if more ward-based mobilisation activity allows people who have had surgery for a hip fracture to get home more quickly and stay living in their own home.
