Research Interests

I am interested in applying theory and qualitative methods from sociology to mental health and addiction. In particular, I am interested in improving people's experiences of mental health and addiction services and embedding lived experience during the development and progression of research.

Research and Supervision

I am a postdoctoral researcher and medical sociologist in the Oxford Tobacco Addiction Group and the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine. I am working on the SAVINGS trial, which is looking at integrating smoking cessation support within financial support settings. My role includes interviewing participants and the financial advisors, conversation analysis of audio-recordings of the intervention, and fidelity checking. I am working on a service evaluation of a smoking cessation support service in Reading Borough Council. I also act as an examiner and supervisor for DPhil students in Primary Health Care and MSc students in Evidence-Based Health Care and MSc by Research in Psychiatry.

I am a Research Member of the Common Room at Kellogg College. I act as a college advisor to postgraduate students and host events related to my research. I am on the BSA Medical Sociology commitee. I contribute to the planning of the yearly medical sociology conference, with a focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion. I also blog for Mental Elf, a resource that highlights evidence-based publications relevant to mental health practice in the UK.

I am passionate about creating a more equitable environment for disabled  and working-class students and academics. I am committed to destigmatising serious mental health conditions, drawing from my own experience of being diagnosed with bipolar during my DPhil at Oxford.

Education

I have a DPhil in Primary Health Care from the University of Oxford. I also hold a MA and BA in Sociology from the University of Leicester and am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My doctoral research explored people's experiences with GPs for the treatment of depression that does not respond to antidepressants.

Mental Health First Aid

I am a fully qualfiied mental health first aider (MHFA). I am avaliable in the primary care office every Tuesday 10-5 or on Teams any other day after 11am.
