Your health and wellbeing
The Wellbeing of Staff and Students in the department is of upmost importance. As a department, we pride ourselves on being a caring, friendly and supportive place to work. We understand that work can have an impact on our wellbeing and that there are many aspects to our wellbeing including mental health, physical health, stress, financial wellbeing and feeling like we belong. The following resources from the department and university are there to support your wellbeing.
Support for your wellbeing
The department's Wellbeing page is here to support you with a list of contacts you can reach out to if you are in need of some extra support, resources on topics from mindfulness to counselling and details of any department specific events taking place.
Mental Health First Aiders
The department’s trained Mental Health First Aiders are a point of contact for staff and students who are experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress. Mental Health First Aiders are not trained to be therapists or psychiatrists but they can help by having a supportive conversation, listen non-judgementally and support and encourage you to get appropriate help.
Thriving at Oxford
The University's wellbeing programme, Thriving at Oxford, has dedicated webpages which include mental health crisis support, and details of the University's employee assistance programme which gives staff, their partners and dependents access to a range of support including counselling.
Harassment Advisors and Mediation
All members of the department should treat others with dignity and respect and no forms of bullying and harassment are tolerated. It is everyone's responsibility to make it clear that such behaviour is unacceptable. Harassment advisors are available for a confidential chat. The mediation service is also open to all staff and students in NDPCHS as an informal process that helps you work through conflict with your colleagues.
Taking Time Off
Taking a break from work with time to rest is important for our wellbeing. The University gives a generous 38 days’ annual leave per year (pro-rata for part-time staff), inclusive of bank holidays which runs from 1 October to 30 September. Visit the Annual Leave intranet page for more information.
There may be instances additional types of leave may be helpful for your wellbeing. For more information visit the University’s leave page.
Financial Wellbeing
The University operates generous pension schemes for staff, determined by your job role and contract type. Staff will soon be contacted with information. For more information about your own situation and entitlement please visit the pensions pages.
The University also provides a range of benefits and discounts to staff, including family-friendly benefits, financial benefits, transport schemes and employee discounts such as through the NUS Totum card. Visit the staff benefits page.
