Readvertising a vacancy with changes from the original request
If you have had an unsuccessful recruitment campaign you might want to consider changes to the job description and/or the advert text before readvertising
Some changes will require further approval. Changes that you will need to request through the Recruitment Initiation Request Form are listed to the right below the Useful Links
Helpful hints for readvertising
Consider offering an underfill for the post
An underfil involves offering a salary at a grade lower than required to allow for candidates who meet some but not all of the required criteria or have enough experience. An adjustment of duties will be made to allow candidates to gain the experience needed to fulfill the full requirements of the role. An underfill arrangement should not be in place longer than 12 months so a clear plan needs to be established when the candidate starts to allow them to achieve this.
To advertise an underfill requires specific wording in the job description and advert text so please discuss this option with the HR Administrator assigned to your vacancy.
Consider offering flexibility in the post such as part time working
Offering greater flexibility can attract a wider range of candidates. Some candidates may initially be put off applying for a full time role if they family, caring commitments or a disability meaning they are not able to work full time.
Consider offering a hybrid working pattern to allow for home working
Since the Pandemic home working has become important to candidates with many more candidates specfically looking for the flexibility to have at least some working from available.
There are several options of wording that can be used in your advert to cover this so please discuss with the HR Administrator assigned to your vacancy.
Consider offering a longer contract duration
This is not always possible depending on the type of funding for the post and the dates that the funding must be used between. If you have external funding that could have the potential to be extended offer a duration of contract with a possibility of extension. You could also use this wording if you are aware of furture funding that may become available that you could move candidates onto.
Contract durations can be discussed with your Grants Officer.
Consider additional advertising
The University is linked with an external media advertising agency TMP. They can provide a suggested media campaign for your requirement at an additional cost. Quotes can be provided. If you would like to make use of this service please discuss with the HR Administrator assigned to your vacancy.
You may also need to discuss this option with your Grants Officer if the cost needs to be met from external funding.
