For young people

Our departmental Young Persons’ Advisory Group (YPAG) for research was launched in 2024 at an event for sixth formers from local state schools. The group is open to anyone aged 16 to 20 living in or local to Oxford, who is interested in sharing their experience and opinions to help make research better. This could be through giving feedback on research proposals, helping to design leaflets, advising on research questionnaires and much more.

Group members also have the chance to learn about research methodologies and have opportunities for training and reading journal articles. They can also take part in research studies.

Our YPAG is part of the Generation R network which brings together YPAGs from across the country, and offers the chance to get involved in more projects.

The group meets approximately every two months, in-person, and refreshments are provided and members receive a voucher for every meeting they attend.

If you are interested in joining the group, please email polly.kerr@phc.ox.ac.uk or fill in this short sign-up form. You can read the privacy notice for the group here.

For researchers

We are always happy to hear from researchers who would like to work with the group, whether that is to get some pre-application input, or involve them more long-term.

Examples of projects that the group has advised on so far include health and wellbeing challenges for young people; ultra-processed foods; monitoring physical fitness; and what young people learn about men’s reproductive health in school.

The YPAG meets approximately every two months and members are reimbursed for their time. Please contact polly.kerr@phc.ox.ac.uk if you are interested in working with the group.
