NewDAWN
new remission care pathway: Diabetes Adaptive Weight managment network
For people recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D) who are overweight, losing weight can put diabetes into remission. Remission means your diabetes has gone away so you have healthy blood glucose without taking medication. However, diabetes may come back in the future so you would still have annual diabetes checks at your practice.
This study is to see whether offering people a new treatment service (NewDAWN) can help more people achieve remission, compared with the current best treatment offered by the NHS.
WHY HAVE I BEEN INVITED?
We are looking for adults aged 18-65 years, who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last 12 months to take part in this study, who would like to use diet to improve their diabetes control, lose weight, or improve their general health.
Your GP has searched in their records to see who might be eligible to take part.
Your medical records suggest that you may benefit from changing your diet in order to achieve remission from diabetes and improve your general health.
What does the study involve?
If you decide to be involved, we will ask you to attend a minimum of 3 appointments over 12 months
These appointments will be similar to your annual diabetes review, where you will have a blood test, your height and weight measured and your blood pressure taken. You will also be asked to complete two questionnaires about your quality of life and how you manage your diabetes. These appointments will take place every 6 months and should take between 20 and 40 minutes.
After these appointments we will send you an email with a link to an online questionnaire to complete about what you usually eat.
After the first of these appointments, you will be randomly assigned to join one of the two treatment groups, either the best NHS treatment available or the NewDAWN service. Both of these treatments will support and guide you to lose weight and keep the weight off and improve your diabetes.
