Supervisors: Dr Catia Nicodemo
This research will contribute to our understanding of GP workforce dynamics, helping to inform policy decisions aimed at addressing shortages, improving distribution, and enhancing the overall sustainability of primary care services. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with rich longitudinal data, allowing for in-depth analysis of career trajectories, geographical mobility, and the effects of various workforce interventions. The project offers an opportunity to contribute to high-impact publications in leading health economics and health services research journals, and to present findings at prestigious conferences in the field. The candidate will also be involved in stakeholder engagement activities, including consultations with policymakers, healthcare providers, and professional bodies.
For this we are seeking a candidate with specialized skills and interests to join our research team. This project aims to examine the dynamics of the General Practitioner (GP) workforce in the UK, focusing on labour market transitions, workforce composition changes, and the impact of various policy interventions on GP recruitment, retention, and distribution. We will be utilizing comprehensive public datasets from NHS Digital to conduct this in-depth analysis of the primary care workforce.
The ideal candidate should have strong skills in statistical analysis and health economics. Experience working with large-scale healthcare datasets is crucial, as the project involves manipulating and analysing complex NHS workforce data. Proficiency in statistical software packages such as Stata, R, or Python is essential for conducting sophisticated analyses of workforce trends and policy impacts.
